Mr. Phillips, a freelance artist for the past twenty years, made the jump to teaching in 2016. A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1994 with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts concentrating in Illustration and Graphic Design, now the Art teacher, testing coordinator, and head golf coach at Gray Stone Day School. After graduating, he spent the first five years working towards breaking into the comic book industry and continues to this day working towards that goal and helping instruct the next generation of artists. Between graduating and his move to Gray Stone Day School, to support his family, he spent eighteen years supporting Bank of America within the Network Services organization and doing commissioned art work in his spare time. His last manager at Bank of America was very helpful in his decision to leave the banking industry to follow his passion for art. He currently lives in Albemarle with his wife of eighteen years and ten year old son, who may one day come to Gray Stone Day School.
