The Gray Stone Day School College Counseling program is guided by Mrs. Sarah Ince. Having spent time on both sides of the college admission desk, Mrs. Ince brings insight and experience to our comprehensive college counseling program. There are as many paths after graduation as there are students. We focus on an individualized approach that encourages students to meet with Mrs. Ince throughout their four years at Gray Stone. We utilize Naviance, a web based software program that assists students in learning style inventories, career interest profiling and college search and matching tools. College Counseling is a four year process helping students design a curricular program and activities resume that speaks to who they are and helps them to reach future goals. While the student should “own” this process, Mrs. Ince welcomes families into the process and is here to provide a wealth of experience, print and web resources, timelines and a general guide for all things college.
th grade focuses on informing students of the importance of four year planning. Time management, study skills, building a strong grade point average, course selection, and intentional development interest areas and co-curricular activities.
th grade is a continuation of the topics covered in 9th grade with more emphasis being placed on the college search and beginning the campus visit process. PLAN and PSAT tests are administered to help students begin to prepare for college entrance exams.
th grade begins the work of developing a list of colleges students are thinking about, standardized testing with the ACT and SAT, and making connections with colleges of interest. Attendance of college fairs and regional information sessions is encouraged.
th grade activities begin before school even starts with a college application summer program in early August. The goal is to have students prepared and ready to apply early so they can make educated and informed decisions and find the best academic, social, co-curricular and financial fit.
