Gray Stone Day School
presents
A Christmas Carol
in radio show fashion!

Monday, December 9th
7:00pm
The Commons at Gray Stone

Gray Stone Day School students will be presenting Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol in the form of a radio show on Monday, December 9th at 7:00 p.m. in the commons. Similar to radio shows in the 1940’s and 1950’s, students will perform the radio play written by Philip Grecian for a live audience by voice acting and creating sound effects with everyday objects.

Students auditioned for Mrs. Laura Almond at the beginning of November, and since then, they have collaborated to learn more about radio shows from the 1940’s and 1950’s. Those who attend the production will experience what it would have been like to be in the studio when radio hosts recorded their programs.

Instead of modernized digital sound effects, the cast of around 20 students will create these same sounds with real windows and household objects. The music in this program will also be performed live. Eighth grader Hunter Josey will play the violin, and senior Shawn An will play the keyboard.

All of the cast members are thrilled to be performing this coming Monday. When asked how he felt about participating in the show, Shawn An said, “I’m so excited and grateful for this opportunity. It is a chance for me to share my passion for music and acting.”

For the past three weeks, the cast has been meeting in smaller groups to prepare for the show. Members are now ready to perform in front of an audience. Senior Victoria Jones said, “This is a unique experience because I’ve never had the opportunity to dress as a person from the 40’s, so I’m ready for the show!”

Mrs. Almond has been helping students prepare for this performance by meeting with them to discuss their voices and performances. She said, “The advantage of radio shows is that there is still a theatrical aspect, it is low maintenance, and it is a chance for students to explore a new creative avenue. I’m eager to see their hard work pay off.”

There will also be an Italian-style dinner provided for attendees, including a lasagna buffet. Tickets are $15 each; however, guests may purchase a table for $75, which is six tickets. Tickets are available for sale below. The show will take place in the commons at Gray Stone Day School.

Students are excited to attend the event. Senior Will Almond shared, “This is not a traditional event, so I’m interested to see a new type of program on Monday.” Senior Jacob Palmer added, “I’m ecstatic to support my fellow classmates by attending this production. This is a great chance for us to support each other and get in the holiday spirit!”

The members of the cast hope that you will join them in their production of A Christmas Carol. Gray Stone is excited to host this program to kick of the holidays and looks forward to seeing you in the commons Monday, December 9th at 7:00 p.m.
