Sheriff’s Office conducts safety training at Gray Stone
The Stanly County Sheriff’s Department recently conducted an active shooter safety training at Gray Stone Day School.
The training was designed to give each deputy the tools he/she needs to respond and confront an active shooter.
Because an active shooter incident can occur anywhere at any time, these exercises help emphasize that every responding deputy without hesitation, will locate, isolate, detain or eliminate the threat and react to the threats by articulating their observations and decision-making process.

Gray Stone Student Achieves Top ACT Score
Maxwell Foote, a rising senior at Gray Stone Day School, has earned the highest possible ACT composite score of 36.
About one-quarter of 1% of students who take the ACT earn a top score.
In the U.S. high school graduating class of 2023, only 2,542 out of 1.39 million students who took the ACT earned a top composite score of 36.
The ACT consists of tests in English, mathematics, reading and science, each scored on a scale of 1-36.
A student’s composition score is the average of the four test scores.
The score of ACT’s optional writing test is reported separately and is not included within the ACT composite score.

Gray Stone Day School celebrates 87 grads during commencement exercises
Gray Stone Day School celebrated milestones Saturday as 87 members of the Knights’ Class of 2024 received diplomas during commencement exercises.
This year’s graduating class was the 20th in the school’s history and join 1,384 previous graduates.
The Class of 2024 earned $3.571 million in scholarships.
It represents nine counties and has performed more than 3,300 community service hours.
Of the 87 graduates, 98% are continuing their education at a two- or four-year college, while one graduate, Sean Taylor, has enlisted in the Navy.
Taylor was recognized during the ceremonies.

U.S. News & World Report ranks Gray Stone in top 30 in state
U.S. News & World Report has released its annual list of the top-ranked high schools in the country.
Gray Stone Day School, a public charter school in Misenheimer, was 28th in North Carolina and 801 in the nation for the 2024 Best High Schools rankings released Tuesday.
