Thank you for making a smooth transition back to in-person learning today. The safety of our school community remains our top priority. While road conditions continue to improve, we understand that everyone’s situation is different. To help keep our Knight family safe, Gray Stone Day School will be on a 2-hour delay on Thursday, January 29. Student drop-off will begin at 9:30 A.M.

We will continue to closely monitor road conditions while working with local emergency management services, and provide additional updates if needed. Please be sure to stay safe and evaluate what best fits your individual situation.

Efird receives prestigious SECU Foundation Scholarship

Cheyenne Efird, a senior at Gray Stone Day School has been awarded the State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) Foundation “People Helping People” scholarship, one of North Carolina’s most distinguished awards for graduating high school seniors.

The $10,000 scholarship, distributed over four years, supports students who demonstrate leadership, integrity, community involvement, and academic excellence. Efird was nominated by school officials based on her outstanding character, commitment to service, and dedication to furthering their education within the state.

The SECU Foundation, funded by the members of the State Employees’ Credit Union, established the “People Helping People” scholarship to support students attending one of the 16 University of North Carolina system campuses. Since its inception, the program has awarded scholarships to thousands of students across the state. “We are incredibly proud of Cheyenne and all that she has accomplished. She is extremely deserving of this award that reflects her hard work, compassion and commitment to excellence, and we celebrate this recognition with her,” said Jeff Walter, principal.

Efird is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society and a member of the Lady Knights softball team. Efird will attend Western Carolina University in the fall to study Communication Sciences and Disorders to be a pediatric audiologist. She is the daughter of Melissa and Daniel Efird.

Gray Stone Day School is a public charter school for grades 6-12 and free to attend.
