U.S. News and World Report ranks Gray Stone among top high schools

U.S. News & World Report has released its annual list of the top-ranked high schools in the country. The rankings include data on more than 24,000 public high schools in the nation based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college.

Gray Stone Day School, a public charter school in Misenheimer NC, ranks in the top 3% nationally and #30 in North Carolina for the 2025 Best High Schools rankings released this week. U.S. News & World Report gave Gray Stone a score of 94.98 out of 100, with 93% of students taking at least one AP exam, 64% passing at least one AP exam, and a 92% graduation rate.

“Being named one of the top high schools in the country is a tremendous honor and a testament to the exceptional efforts of our students, educators and staff,” said Helen Nance, chief administrative officer for the school. “This achievement highlights our commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and creating an environment where every student can thrive.”

Additionally, Gray Stone Day School earned platinum distinction by the 2024 Advanced Placement Program School Honor Roll. This recognition is based on criteria that reflects a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.

Gray Stone Day School is a regional college-preparatory school for grades 6-12 and free to attend.
