Gray Stone Day: Beta Club
Gray Stone Day's first-ever National Beta Club

Gray Stone Day School senior Addison McGuire has launched the school’s first-ever National Beta Club Chapter, marking a milestone for student leadership and academic community service on campus. Inspired by a desire to create long-lasting opportunities for her peers, McGuire proposed, organized and formed the chapter as part of the graduation required community service project.

Beta Club is a student-based academic honor society that promotes character, leadership, service and academic achievement. Membership is by invitation and requires students to meet academic and behavior criteria, including a GPA of 3.5 or higher. The process of forming the chapter involved months of planning, meeting national organizational requirements, securing a faculty sponsor and recruiting students. The newly established chapter has 14 members who are already planning volunteer service opportunities in the community.

“When trying to decide what I wanted my service project to look like, I knew I wanted to offer students with opportunities that would continue to benefit them and the school after I graduated, said McGuire. My goal is to encourage middle schoolers to work towards demonstrating the leadership qualities and community service abilities that Gray Stone fosters. It is my hope that this club grows every year and will encourage students to use their talents to help others.”

Principal Melissa Smith praised McGuire’s senior leadership adding, “Addison has demonstrated exceptional dedication and maturity. Founding this chapter required a vision and persistence, and she has delivered both. She will leave behind a legacy rooted in service that will last for years to come, and we are incredibly proud of her hard work and determination.”

Gray Stone Day School is a public charter school for grades 6-12 and free to attend.
