Students in Jeff Brown’s Design Lab classes recently concluded their Capstone Spring project of designing, building and racing Roman Chariots.
For the past 2 months students used the physics principles of Potential Energy, Kinetic Energy and Momentum plus creative and innovative thinking to build Chariots conforming to detailed rules and restrictions.
Chariots had to have only 3 wheels and have no mechanical devices.
All their hard work culminated in the 2022 Chariot Races held at the Gray Stone Day School campus on March 22nd.
13 teams participated in an "elimination" runoff race format on a 1/4 mile "course".
Each team consisted of a Chariot "rider" and 2 "pushers".
All chariots were required to pass an extensive technical and safety inspection prior to the race.
