Gray Stone Day School seniors Ritika Ravikumar and Andy McLeod have been named Commended Students in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program.
They are among 34,000 of the approximately 50,000 high scorers who took the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test during their junior year.
Although Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, some do become candidates for special scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.
“We are proud of Ritika and Andy for receiving this prestigious recognition.
They truly embody the high academic standards we hold at Gray Stone Day School, and they represent our school well. We know they both have incredibly bright futures ahead,” Principal Jeff Walter said.
Andy is a member the Cross Country and Track Teams as well as the Men’s Basketball team.
In addition, he is a member of the National Honor Society and Quiz Bowl team. Ritika is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Science Olympiad, Mock Trial and serves on the Student Council.
Both students reside in Albemarle.
