Gray Stone Day School continues to spread awareness about the importance of mental health with its partnership with Mission 34, the nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating the stigma surrounding mental illness through education and awareness.
High school students were given the opportunity to experience an interactive event focusing on overall mental wellness.
Henry Davis, a yoga practitioner and documentary filmmaker provided yoga, breathing, and stretching techniques. Meditation and yoga teacher Julianna O’Malley, provided students with mindfulness activities as they navigated a labyrinth.
Molly Barker, founder of Girls on the Run, discussed the impact of stress on one’s emotional and physical health.
High School Counselor Roy Morgan talked with students about crisis prevention and how to identify trusted resources when a crisis occurs.
“This was an event unlike any we’ve done before.
The primary focus of this event was to be experiential.
We often talk about the need for mental health awareness but seldom provide concrete ways to practice.
I observed as students transitioned from silliness and half-hearted interaction to thoughtful and insightful responses.
The student feedback was amazing and many shared that the day was nothing like they expected; it surpassed all expectations and they went away feeling refreshed.” School Counselor Roy Morgan said.
Gray Stone plans to provide other collaborations through Mission 34 to students, taff and faculty throughout the year.
