The Gray Stone Day School Battle of the Books team recently organized a successful book drive for Western North Carolina elementary schools impacted by Hurricane Helene.
Students took a hands-on approach by sorting through the donated books to ensure they were categorized, boxed and labeled properly.
The drive resulted in a collection of 4,850 new and gently used books to be donated to schools whose libraries were completely destroyed.
Battle of the Books club advisor and English teacher Pam Rutherford knows how important reading is.
“We knew we wanted to find a way to make a positive impact and give access to books for schools impacted by the storm,” Rutherford said.
“I am so very proud of our students who served in this capacity and had the desire to help.”
Gray Stone Day School is a college preparatory school for grades 6-12 and free to attend.
